"Nightglow" by Mikko Lagerstedt. It's pretty intense HDR, but I really like it for the sort of mystical quality it has.

A photo taken by Fubirai on the island of Fukuoka in Japan, commonly called "Cat Heaven Island." I really like the effect of the wide-angle lens; it makes the background very interesting to look at.

Justice shot by Jean Baptiste Mondino. I like how the high detail and wide tonal range make the picture look sort of unreal.
Also Justice.

"Dali Atomicus" by Philippe Halsman, shot in 1948. Everyone loves surrealist photography, and this is just aout as surreal as it gets without Photoshop getting involved.  The composition is nonexistant, but there's enough visual intrigue to make it appealing to look at.

A daguerrotype of Phineas Gage, circa 1850. We learned about him in psych the other day.
The quality of the photograph is rather impressive considering its age. The amount of detail in particular is striking, apparent in the wrinkles of his jacket and the scars on his face.
I am really pleased with myself because I know how to spell daguerrotype.
